Postpartum period tips

While your postpartum period is likely to be a very special time for you, you may also feel very vulnerable during this period. That is why we have some words of advice for you:

• Don’t expect too much of yourself. You’ll need time to recover, both physically and mentally. This is perfectly natural.
• Give yourself some time to get used to feeding and all the other things that are new to you; it is normal that you need some time to learn all of these new things.
• Try to get enough rest, for instance by taking naps in the afternoon.
• Take good care of yourself, eat healthy and balanced and drink plenty of water.
• Make sure you and your partner take time to be alone with your baby, so that you can get used to each other and get to know each other.
• Be careful not to have too many visitors over. Having many people around can cause stress and disturbance, which may have a negative influence on breastfeeding and on the sleeping and eating routine of your baby.
• Make sure to let people know what you want and need. State your wishes clearly to each other, but also to the nurse or family members that are there to help.
