Items you need for the birth
For the birth and postpartum period, you will need a so-called maternity kit.
Maternity kit:
- 10 sanitary towels
- 1 umbilical clamp
- 10 pieces of gauze 10/10
- 2 packages of umbilical pads 1/16
- Protective mattress cover
- 6 (cloth) diapers or towels
- A small bottle of alcohol 70%
- thermometer
- 2 packs of maternity pads
- 1 pack of sanitary pads
- 1 metal hot-water bottle
Many insurers provide free maternity kits that include all the items you need. Make sure to ask you insurer about this in time.
Raising the bed
During the postpartum period, the bed should be raised by using special bed raisers or beer crates. Minimal height of the bed should be 65cm. At the thuiszorgwinkel, you can borrow bed raisers for free, and they also have baby scales and breast pumps for rent.
